What to Eat for Breakfast?

When you’re a busy, hard-working woman it can be hard to make time to cook breakfast, yet alone a healthy and filling breakfast at that. Many times you might settle for a bowl of cereal or a piece of fruit, which isn’t enough to sustain you until lunch. If maintaining a healthy and clean diet is your priority than eating the right foods for breakfast has to become part of your morning routine. Below are some of the food combinations that I eat for breakfast. These suggestions are sure to give you the right amount of energy you need to get through the day!

Breakfast Wrap

There are so many ways that you can make a breakfast wrap, but the way I choose to make mine is simple. I use three ingredients; eggs, chicken and tortillas. I prefer my tortilla to be a tad crunchy, so I add butter to it and place it in the skillet on top of the stove. Once the tortilla is toasted enough to your liking you can scramble your eggs. Typically, your chicken should already be pre-cooked that way all you have to do is heat it up. Once this is completed place your eggs and chicken and fold it into your tortilla. Bon appetite!

Wheat waffles, Eggs, Fruit + Turkey Bacon

This combo is my #1 choice when it comes to breakfast. The meal itself is only 535 calories if your fruit is a green apple and you eat two of the other food options listed.

PB Toast, Fruit + Sausage

Who doesn’t love peanut butter? It has protein and potassium, which are key to lowering the risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Some of my fruit choices include an apple, watermelon, pineapple or melon. Each have the right amount of citrus in it, which is great for boosting your immune system.

Smoothie + Nature Valley Granola Bar

If you’re in a rush and absolutely don’t have time to cook anything make smoothies the night before to drink as you head out for work in the morning. My smoothies usually have spinach in it because of the iron it offers. Lastly, out of all the granola bars out there Nature Valley is my ultimate fave. You can create your own smoothie mix depending on your fruit and juice preferences.

Whatever you do never skip breakfast because it’s the most important meal of the day!

Flat Tummy Water

Do you want the secret to a flatter stomach?

It’s simple… LEMON WATER!

Lemon water has been around for ages, yet people fail to realize its tremendous benefits to your overall health. For starters, lemons are filled with so many nutrients like vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and fiber. Basically, a lot of good stuff for your body. Adding lemon to your water gives a new twist to staying hydrated throughout the day. I have listed some of the benefits of lemon water below. Pay attention to them as these simple benefits can help kick-start your life into a healthy direction (:

1. Flattens your Tummy

DISCLAIMER: Drinking lemon water will not instantly flatten your tummy, however overtime adding in consistent workout regime and clean diet to drinking lemon water everyday will help you lose weight. Why? Lemons have pectin fiber in them, which assists in fighting your hunger cravings.

2. Gives you energy

Lemon water gives your body energy as soon as it enters your digestive tract. In fact, research shows that the scent of lemons has a calming effect, too.

3. Keeps your skin acne-free

The antioxidants in lemon water decreases your pimples. When you add baking soda and lemon juice together you’re creating your own skin care regime as the two together works wonders for your face. Applying this combination to scars and dark spots will help in reducing their appearance giving your skin a radiant glow.

4. Helps with digestion

Drinking lemon water loosens the toxins in your digestive tract, so if you’re “backed up” drink a little bit of lemon water and your system will get back to normal in a jiffy. In addition, lemon water helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion like heartburn, burping and bloating.

5. Freshens your breath

Smelly breath? Don’t worry just drink lemon water. Be careful however, with brushing your teeth immediately after drinking lemon water due to the citric acid, which can erode teeth enamel.

Shake Shack Cookbook

Former First Lady, Michelle Obama’s favorite burger chain has just released its first cookbook.

For Shake Shack this means millions of people can remake the restaurant’s beloved burgers in the comfort of their own home.

Now, you’re probably thinking burgers aren’t healthy, but that’s where you’re wrong. Using the cookbook you’re able to see what ingredients go into making the burgers taste so good, but the catch is you can substitute ingredients that are best for YOU! For example, instead of using ground beef on one of the burgers you could use ground turkey instead. By tweaking just a few ingredients you’re creating a healthy version of the burger, but still keeping the flavor. Try it and see what you discover!

Core Focused Yoga

Yesterday, I attended a Core Focused Yoga class in Discovery Green in Houston with my friends. I was hesitant at first because I often feel that I do not reap the benefits that yoga has to offer. I went to the class with an open-mind, however in order to learn a new type of yoga. Having my friends come with me made the experience worthwhile!

For those who are not familiar with Discovery Green in Houston I highly recommend you go to check it out. It’s basically a giant park downtown that offers various activities for you to participate in. Each activity is suitable for the whole family. Visit their website for a schedule of events and group meetings that they post daily.

Now, back to my yoga experience!

Make sure you have a yoga mat or even a towel to use during the class or you’ll have to purchase one. As class began we practiced deep breathing exercises to release any negative energy that we had. Having had a long day of work made this part was much needed for myself. The instructor quickly got into the different type of poses that we would be completing for the day, which took about a hour to complete. There were some poses that I wasn’t able to do as my body just wasn’t flexible enough to complete them. The class ended with us laying on our backs on our yoga mats and sinking into the ground. This exercise was intended to help us ultimately relax everything that we had worked prior to class starting. All in all I enjoyed my experience in the class and would definitely go again. Below are some pictures I took with my friends trying our best to mimic the poses from class.
